To do the lollipop and candy cane, you’ll need to white out some areas first. Start by painting a titanium white circle in the general area you’d like to see the lollipop. Note: I did paint the candy cane stripes on the doorknob in too with cadmium red medium.
Next I painted the swirls coming out of the chimney with titanium white and that same #5 round brush. Also I switched to a 10/0 liner to paint tiny dots on the roof gum drops and a reflection line on the ground gum drops. Oh and also – that door knob!
I agree heavily with your decision to buy the higher end brushes. Choosing the quality tools over the cheap ones, even despite the price, is definitely the right way to go when undergoing a DIY painting project. The difference it provides is day and night! In my opinion, the money used to buy the top tier equipment saves you from any extra stress or headaches that poor quality brushes or tape can cause, so in the end it really is a win! We are in the process of painting our entire house. It’s not huge by any means but we do have very high ceilings in our living room/kitchen which has created an extra issue.
